Description
Graphite is still my favorite traditional medium to work with even though it can be sorta messy and time consuming. I work primarily with a mechanical pencil (Pentel SIDE FX .05 mm) to keep the details (especially the fur) crisp and clean. For backgrounds, I typically use a 5B or 6B Derwent pencil and then a blending stump to give the background that soft look. A background like this is usually pretty time-consuming to create and normally by the end of it all, the side of my hand and part way up my arm is black with graphite. XD
The only thing that bothers me about this picture is the snow. I spattered slightly watered down white acrylic paint with a toothbrush across it, but when I scanned it and adjusted the brightness, contrast, mid-tones, and highlights...the snow looks as if it appears to have been digitally added. It frustrates me and I don't know why it looks that way, but I guess I'm going to have to live with it. The original does NOT appear that way at all.
Anyway, enjoy.
